The following grants are available through the PCUSA’s 1001 New Worshiping Communities. All applications must be reviewed and endorsed by our Heartland New Worshiping Community Commission. This one-time grant for up to $7,500 is designed to encourage the birth of new worshipping communities.

Applicants will have spent time in prayer, discernment and fact-finding regarding your call to address spiritual and/or physical needs in your communities and the resources necessary for your outreach.


At least one year after receiving a Seed Grant, a one-time grant of up to $25,000 is possible, to provide for the next eighteen months.  Approval is conditioned upon real progress toward completing the tasks named in the booklet above.

A matching grant from a congregation, presbytery, synod, or in-kind donation required.


At least eighteen months after receiving an Investment Grant, a one-time grant of up to $25,000 is possible.  Approval is conditioned upon significant progress being made toward meeting the goals and objectives as outlined in the Investment Grant proposal.

Leaders must have successfully completed the “Discerning Missional Leadership Assessment” and have a relationship with a NWC coach reviewed and approved by the commission.

Applicants must demonstrate mission giving beyond the local community with at least 5% of the annual budget being directed to shared mission giving through the presbytery.

Additionally, in order to support leaders while they create new communities, a Health Insurance Grant of up to $1,500 is available for NWC leaders. This grant can be received up to 3 times.
